Elopement in Varenna Australian Wedding on Lake Como
2024 September 02 WEDDING STORIES by Diego Taroni
Upon entering Villa Cipressi in Varenna, I immediately realised that I was in front of an exceptional bride, and I quickly understood why they chose Photo27, specifically me, Diego Taroni, and my light. This was later confirmed, but I will discuss that later.
John and Sara contacted me through their wedding planner and they were instantly captivated by my way of capturing moments. Even though it was an elopement, meaning there were only four of us, there were truly many "frame-worthy" moments. The ceremony took place on the terrace overlooking the lake, with a string trio resonating throughout the bay.
I found myself relating to this couple in their fifties, who were so full of life and so in love.
At Villa Cipressi on Lake Como, everything unfolded just like in many other elopements in Italy.
The moment that struck me the most occurred during dinner when the couple, seated at a small table in a private room with a view of the lake, said to me: “Diego, stop taking photos and sit down with us." At that point, two pivotal moments occurred for my career as a wedding and elopement photographer in Italy.
John said to me, “Diego, do you know why we chose you? For three reasons” (things I already knew but had never been told so clearly, with tears in their eyes).
They loved how I captured moments, how I composed images, and the fantastic way I used light.
At one point, the groom stood up from his chair, leaned over the balcony that faced directly onto Lake Como, and, looking at the shimmering water and the snow-capped peaks in the background, he burst into tears, prompting his wife's embrace.
The groom then turned to me and said, “I have never seen anything so beautiful.” This was because such landscapes do not exist in Australia.
We continued chatting at the table, and I was no longer just the photographer; I had become their friend, the one who had captured the highlights of their wonderful day with my Canon.
I was also a witness to a moment of emotion that I will never forget, a feeling that stayed with me even during my journey home as I reflected on that Australian couple who married on Lake Como.
To those newlyweds who chose the right photographer, a photographer of "emotions". They had understood my essence through my images: they were the true artists of the day.
